*A 3 Day time frame from the commencement of repair to the time the customer is scheduled to pick up the vehicle upon repair.

^ The only exception to not being able to provide immediate quotations are usually when conventional repairs are required or if parts are not available from suppliers. During major storm events, supply of parts from specific manufacturers can run low which is understandable. There is then a waiting period which is out of our control. Depending on a case by case basis, we sometimes offer choice on whether to wait for the parts to schedule vehicle repair or to repair now and then place parts later.

Hailstorms are no stranger to the Australian region particularly in the summer months. Hailstones range from as small as pea sized to the monster sized hailstones the size of grape fruit!

Hailstones in this particular event would have been in the grapefruit size category – yes get your ruler out – greater than 11cm in diameter – probably comparable to the hailstones experienced in the Sydney hailstorm April 1999 in some of the worst hit suburbs. Taking the call

Whatever the time and no matter how you contact us by phone, email or referral from other customers or companies, we will immediately guide you through the process to get your vehicle repaired.

First step is to establish whether you have gone through an insurance company and satisfied their requirements. Some insurance companies require quotations and assessments via a PDR company before a decision is made as to the appropriate type of repair required. We will assist you in preparing the necessary documentation.

PDR Assessment and Quotation

Our quotation and assessment reports are processed for your consideration.
Depending on the extent of the damage to your vehicle determines how quickly the vehicle can be assessed. Nevertheless, it is essential that we thoroughly examine all panels to provide a realistic assessment and quotation. Although it may take an hour to process the final quote, it is often easier for most to drop off the vehicle at one of our depots during the morning and pick up at a later time that day. The final qoutation is not simply a guestimate. We have set formulas and guidelines that factor the difficulty and amount of time it takes to repair dents with minimal cost. In some instances, most panels can be repaired whilst others are most cost effective to be replaced by new genuine parts. Whatever is required, we do all that research for you and provide you with a clear and detailed quotation.

Our quotation process are prepared quickly and thoroughly to expedite the process of repair. If you have any questions or queries about the quotation, please chat to our staff. We pride on feedback and want you to be a part of the process and understand what work is required and will be carried out.

Furthermore, if there are any non-hail related dents, these will be discussed at the time you pick up the vehicle and qotation report. With so many years of experience in paintless dent repairs, it becomes obvious what damage is naturally consistent with hailstones.

Repairing the vehicle

Once the decision is made to go ahead with the agreed quote, you would want to book in a time for your vehicle to go ahead with the repair. In most cases, the time taken to repair the actual vehicle is not that long. However, please be aware there are factors that can delay the process outside of our control such as parts that require to be ordered from overseas in the case of at least some model types. If there are long delays, usually you will be notified by the technicians.

Quality control

All completed work on vehicles including the PDR work and replacement of panels, are thoroughly quality checked by the head technician, then management and then by you when it is picked up. If any irregularities exist, they have to be rectified. The Dent Shed has so many years of experience amongst the technicians that this is rarely an issue and customers are absolutely astonished by the results! Melbourne Christmas Day Hailstorm 2011

Christmas Day 2011 unfortunately spawned at least two violent hailstorms that tracked across the northern and western suburbs during the afternoon. Known as supercell thunderstorms, these storms spawned giant hailstones to the size of tennis balls that literally damaged thousands of vehicles across affected suburbs.

The Dent Shed has once again set up premises in the affected area of Airport West. Most people are unaware that they have hailstone damage on their vehicle. Hailstones of the size larger than golf balls generally will show at least a few dents. Any hail from about 3 to 4cm in diameter up the size of golf balls are sometimes difficult to see depending on the strength of the panels of the vehicles. Whether it be due to bad lighting or perhaps dust and dirt on their vehicle, the smaller dents are hard to see to the untrained naked eye.

BE SAFE. It is important to get your vehicle inspected if you have been in the Melbourne hailstorm – either of them, (March 2010 or December 2011) as it is likely you have damage on your vehicle without even knowing. Insurance companies suggest that you should disclose this information so please get it checked with us for free. If you do choose to go ahead with repairing the hail damage, we can get it done within the one day  or two. Don’t wait – get it over and done with now. We take the stress out of your repairs. On the 17th December 2012, a number of hailstorms developed in eastern South Australia. Some of these directly impacted on communities including Whyalla. Hailstones the size of cricket balls or perhaps larger damaged vehicles and houses causing extensive damage.

After surveying the damage, The Dent Shed set up premises in the area to assist in the repair process. Although hailstones the size of golf balls or larger causes visible damage, if you were affected by hail up to golf ball sized, you should get your car checked as it may be possible you have hailstone damage and not realise. This intensive program will run cover both theoretical and practical aspects of paintless dent repair PDR.

Graduates of this course, with practice, will become qualified to enter the paintless dent repair industry with the opportunity to align themselves with panel shops car yards and auctions or will be equipped to set up their own mobile business. Technicians also have opportunities to work overseas given the demands of major hailstorms particularly in Europe or the United States!

So what does a PDR Technician do?

PDR Technicians use special tools and skills to push out dents without the requirements of respraying a car. Most dents repaired will be as a result of a hailstorm damage but can also occur accidently caused by opening car park doors.

Is there a demand for PDR Technicians?

There is an extreme shortage of PDR Technicians – the combination of the Melbourne hailstorm alone and now the Perth hailstorm prompting a demand for overseas technicians to come work here. And yet a shortage still exists.

Who can join this course?

It is often assumed that most that will apply for this course will be those working in the panel beating industry. This is not necessarily the case. Requirements for a PDR technician include patience, independence, ambition to succeed, an eye for fine detail, steady hands, and a strive for quality. The cost depends on how many module skilled levels you satisfy.The final course cost include discounts on tools:
